ABOUT US

A photo-dream project
by photographers
for photographers.

Analogue Dreamers Club was conceived by two photographers obsessed with the magical allure of analogue photography, in late 2021. We sat down with a dream of bolstering the incredible film community here in South Africa, as well as getting access to novelty film stock that was hard to come by in this little Southern corner of the world. Here we are, in 2022, with our first launch of hand-rolled film! We are excited for the future of Analogue Dreamers Club, and we have a great deal in store for our fellow Dreamers! We’re excited to have you join us on our journey!

Our VISION project
— Saying YES! to Remjet

As analogue shooters, and as cinema junkies, we absolutely adore motion picture film stock. Nothing quite has that colour and texture like the unrivalled, infamous Kodak Vision stock, which is completely synonymous with what we now term ‘that film look’. Unable to easily get access to motion picture film stock in South Africa ourselves, we decided to embark on this VISION project – to handroll and stock motion picture film stock for South African photographers, at an affordable cost.
One of our riskiest moves yet? Keeping the Remjet.

What is Remjet?

Remjet is a protective layer on motion picture film. It is an integral part of cinema film stock, as – unlike photographic film – motion picture film moves REALLY FAST through a camera (at usually 24 frames per second – that’s fast!) – so Remjet is required to protect the film from scratches, sparks igniting in the camera, etc.
OUTSIDE of cinema, how does remjet affect photography? We have seen the infamous red halation that comes with CineStill film which is really beautiful in its own right. However, we wanted to provide an option for photographers who are looking for a cleaner, more cinematic, more traditional look! And so, we opted to keep the anti-halation properties of the Remjet layer, which prevents that red glow around light sources.
